Overlooking the medieval town, the Castel Vecchio of Verona and the river Adige, the azienda Agricola Piccoli is surrounded by its own vineyards in this stunning landscape.

After many years producing high quality grapes for other wineries, Daniela Piccoli decided to produce her own wines which reflect a perfect expression of Valpolicella. Located on a beautiful tuffaceous and calcareous hill Monte La Parte, the vineyard spreads over 10 hectares at 250 metres above sea level.

In this area of Veneto, Corvina is blended with local grapes, Rondinella, Corvinone, Oseleta, Molinara and Croatina. The perfect south to south-west exposure gives the best conditions to produce high quality and healthy grapes.

The number of bottles produced is quite small, the estate focusing on exceptional quality.

    Tasting Notes:

Often, Valpolicella is considered an easy-drinking wine. The evolution of wine-making proves the ability for ageing, although younger vintages are also very enjoyable.

Valpolicella grapes are all hand harvested, and once the fermentation is complete, the wine is refined in French oak barrels for 16 months with an extra 4 months in bottle prior to release.

The red ruby colour wine has a very elegant vegetal bouquet full of eucalyptus, rose and with a touch of spice. "Rocolo", recently rewarded by Decanter magazine is well deserved for this upcoming estate.

Ideal with red meat, game, stews and risotto.

Italian speciality Maccheroncini al Prosciutto Cotto (traditional pasta dish of macaroni and prosciutto)

    Tasting Notes:

Ripasso takes its name after being "re-passed" by second fermentation which consists of Valpolicella wine being in contact with the skins and lees from the Amarone grapes of the same vintage. It gives the Ripasso a much darker and complex wine.

Having being granted its DOC status only in 2007, its unique style makes it a must for wine lovers.

Perfect with Lamb, grouse, duck and roast pork.

Italian Speciality Fegato alla Venezian (traditional Venetian classic of calves liver).

    Tasting Notes:

Referred to as the pride of Valpolicella, Amarone goes through a complex process of grape drying, which usually takes about 4 months, before fermentation. The wine then matures over 30 months in French oak barrel.

'Monte La Parte' is a modern style Amarone, easily enjoyed young, whilst traditional Amarone needs more years to soften.

Nonetheless, it's minty flavoured bouquet of raspberry and spices is complex. The palate is elegant, full and tannic. It is a wine for special occasions and has won awards at the prestigious Top Verona 2012.

Superb with beef, red meat, game and stews.

Italian Speciality Torresani allo Spiedo (pigeon cooked in spitfire grill and served with polenta).
