When it comes to finding a peaceful place to retire, it does not come any better than this. Ask Franco and Franca Gatteschi who purchased this “poderi” in 1990 overlooking this spectacular landscape, covering 41 hectares, mainly woodland and with only one hectare dedicated to vines.
The Gatteschi’s decided to create a small wine cellar to deal with the existing vineyard, and after a lot of hard work, the reward saw the birth of a Chianti Classico Riserva in 1997. By 2003, they had purchase another small property extending the estate to 4 hectares, all at 500 metres above sea level.
A grape by grape selection is carried out when harvesting. Fermentation takes place both in stainless steel and French oak vats (according to the grape selection), while ageing is primarily in French oak tonneaux.
Podere Ciona now produces Chianti Classico DOCG Riserva, as well as their flagship wine "Le Diacce", a Merlot-based wine and two younger wines based on Sangiovese and Merlot grapes.
