Colli Orientali del Friuli, close to the Slovenian border, with its microclimate and topography, is characterised by the diversity of grape varieties.

The Colutta Farm “Bandut” is named after an ancient piece of land bought by his grandfather, Antonio Colutta in the early 1900´s. Giorgio produces quality wines from his vineyards comprising 24 hectares found in the prestigious “Parco della vite e del vino” (vine and wine park) in the Colli Orientali del Friuli.

In 1999, the refurbishment of  “Villa Padronale” dating back to the 18th century began, at which time Giorgio built the vinification cellar, “barriqueria”, and a state-of-the-art bottling plant.

Colutta’s wines comprise of traditional varietals, Pinot Grigio, Prosecco, Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Cabernet and Merlot, alongside indigenous grape varieties, Refosco, Pignolo, Schioppettino , Verduzzo Friulano and Picolit.

Pinot Grigio and Fruili remind one of Chardonnay and Burgundy, a blessing relationship.

Its perfume recalls scents of tropical fruits, such as pineapple, with notes of peach and citrus. The great acidity gives Pinot Grigio the perfect balance.

    Tasting Notes:

Verduzzo Friulano is an indigenous Friuli grape variety. It produces dry, and notably sweeter wines because of its ability to sustain the Noble Rot.

This late-harvested wine has a light and elegant expression with notes of honey, candied fruit and lavender. Neither too sweet nor too concentrated, the Verduzzo Friulano is very harmonious, a fine dessert wine.

It can be paired with foie gras, blue cheese, desserts such as fruit tarts.

Italian speciality Sfogliata (a popular Friuli pastry with a combination of chocolate and hazelnuts)

  • Colli Orientali del Fruili D.O.C.G Picolit

    Tasting Notes:

Picolit, meaning small is one of the three DOCG from Friuli. Its bunches have less grapes than usual, due to a reduced pollination.

That makes Picolit, a rare and praised wine because of its limited production. The grapes are late-harvested and then laid on straw mats a little longer to dry out. Its history has always been connected with the Italian Royal Court because of its unique and prestigious character.

The bouquet is intense with notes of honey, maple syrop and chestnuts. The palate is very persistant but lively because of its acidity. Definitely a nectar for special occasion, often referred to as a 'meditation' wine.

Serve it with an almond-based dessert, studdel or cheeses such as Formandi Frant (a typical Friuli cheese). Can also be enjoyed on its own after a meal.

Italian speciality Strucolo di Albicoche o Ciliege (Friulian Apricot Studel)

    Tasting Notes:

Refosco dal Peduncolo takes its origin from Friuli. It produces a dark-coloured, good strength and great acidity wine. This Refosco is refined partly in wood to soften its natural tannins. It has a good potential for ageing but can also be enjoyed when younger.

This is a wine of intense and complex vegetal flavours, alongside blackberries. The tannins are firm but well balanced with a fruity touch.

It will match red meat, duck, game or aged cheeses.

Italian Speciality Boreto alla Graisana (traditional Friuli fish soup, adventurous and inspiring match with Refosco)

  • Colli Orientali del Fruili DOC Schioppettino

    Tasting Notes:

Also known as Ribolla Nera, Schioppettino carries an old historical heritage. It almost became extinct because of the introduction of French varieties during the phylloxera crisis. The revival of this Friuli gem is spectacular and Giorgio Colutta is a fierce promoter of the Schioppettino cause.

It is best described as having the fruit of Pinot Noir with the spice and tannins of Syrah.

This deep purple-ruby wine has intense flavour of berries, spices and even dark chocolate. Its long finale is preceded with a generous, although very elegant and fruity palate.

Try it with game, red meat and medium-aged cheese.

Italian Speciality Agnello alla Friulana (local speciality of lamb with tomato and cinnamon)

    Tasting Notes:

Cabernet has been present in Friuli as far back as the early 1800’s and is widely grown nowadays in the region. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, it produces a harmonious combination.

It is a medium to full-bodied wine with a predominantly herbaceous bouquet, the taste is fully flavoured with a velvety background due to its refinement in wooden barrels.

Excellent with cold meat, poultry or rabbit roast, hard and mature cheeses.

Italian Speciality Salmi di Capriolo alla Friulana (venison cooked in 'salmi marinade')

  • Colli Orientali del Fruili Rosso D.O.C 'Selenard'

    Tasting Notes:

A beautiful chemistry of Friuli ‘s native red grape variety with classic Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes, "'Selenard' is named after the area where the vines are planted.

All the grapes are harvested manually, fermented and aged separately before being blended and refined a little further in wooden barrels.

You will notice vanilla touches amongst blackberries. The palate is complex, full with a long-lasting finale.

Perfect to match with game-based dishes, ripe cheeses such as Parmegianno regianno or matured cheddar.

Italian Speciality Capreto alla Caciatore (braised lamb with tomato, onions, garlic and rosemary)

    Tasting Notes:

The recovery of Pignolo is quite remarkable. Only a few vines remained until an EU decree  was issued in 1978 to save and revive it alongside other native grape varieties from the region. Nowadays, Pignolo is still rare and confidential and has a very limited production but it only to be found in the Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC appellation.

It is a very generous, robust and refined wine. It has intense spicy flavours and liquorice. It is a full-bodied, generous mesmerizing taste.

Pignolo will pair dishes such as grilled meat, game, matured cheese or spicy salami.

Italian speciality Capriolo al Forno (classic mountain recipe of venison cooked in red wine)

Only produced in the best vintages, Merlot Selezione is a fine example of great wine-making, reflecting the quality of terroir.

Only healthiest grapes are carefully selected and hand picked. After a long maceration and fermentation, the refinement of the wine is achieved over 18 months in french barriques.

It is a stunning concentration of red fruits, with light medicinal essences. A touch of vanilla is also noticeable. Full-bodied, well structured, the balance is outstanding.

Fantastic with roast lamb, beef, wild fowl and cheese.
