Abruzzo lies along the east coast of Italy with all its territory boarding the Adriatic Sea on one side and the Apennine mountains on the other. This rather small region offers beautiful landscapes of mountains, hills and sea. As locals say, there is nothing flat in Abruzzo, not even the wines.
The climate is rather mild on the Apennines slopes due to the cool air coming from the mountains.
There is a slow revolution in Abruzzo moving to a low quality and bulk wines production past to a quality-driven future. Most of the vineyards are located in the south part of the region in the Chieti area and the traditional “pergola” method is still nowadays widely used for the vines.
Domestic and International grapes are cultivated in Abruzzo but the most common ones are probably Montepulciano d’Abruzzo for the red and Trebbiano d’Abruzzo and Pecorino for the whites.
The vineyards and olive trees are cultivated organically in respect of the environment. Alberto Tiberio, after the end of his long experience as an administrator in the wine cooperative of Our Lady of Miracles Casalbordino, which lasted 27 years became producer of own wines from the year 2008.
